ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

When organizing a trip to Bhutan, being well-informed is key to ensuring a seamless and delightful experience. Here are crucial details to keep in mind:

  1. Visa and Entry Requirements: Except for citizens of India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, all visitors need a visa. This can only be obtained through licensed Bhutanese tour operators like Sherpa Expedition and Trekking, who will handle the application process on your behalf.

  2. Tourism Policy: Bhutan's distinctive tourism policy focuses on preserving its culture, environment, and way of life. Tourists must book through licensed operators, follow a pre-planned itinerary, and pay a daily package fee covering accommodation, meals, transportation, and a guide.

  3. Best Time to Visit: Optimal periods are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to December ) for pleasant weather and clear skies. Bhutan is accessible year-round, each season offering its own allure.

  4. Cultural Etiquette: Respect Bhutan's deep religious and cultural roots by dressing modestly, particularly at religious sites. Remove shoes before entering temples or monasteries, and follow the customary clockwise circumambulation at religious sites.

  5. Health and Safety: Bhutan is generally safe, but travel insurance covering medical emergencies is advisable. Altitude sickness may be a concern at higher elevations, emphasizing the need for acclimatization during treks or visits to places like Tiger's Nest Monastery.

  6. Currency and Payment: Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN) is the currency, with Indian Rupees widely accepted. While credit cards work in some establishments, having cash for smaller transactions is recommended.

  7. Communication: Dzongkha is the official language, but English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas. Mobile networks and internet services are available, though coverage may be limited in remote regions.

By staying informed on these details, you can maximize your Bhutan experience, immersing yourself in the country's unique culture and natural beauty. Sole Encounters Trekking Pvt Ltd ensures a well-planned and memorable trip, providing an authentic Bhutanese adventure.
